MAGENTA
Magenta is an addition to the list of colours and is a series of individual short dances choreographed by the artistic director, Jim Hastie, keeping the essence of Margaret Morris's style but using his own interpretation of favourite pieces of music.
DANCE TECHNIQUE - 4 grades of Dance Technique are presently being used in MMM training.
Dance Technique is selection of more contemporary dance exercises that Margaret Morris developed in the 1940's for her professional Celtic Ballet Company and to support the higher adult grades.
This is an exciting stylised contemporary movement which enables the students to gain an excellent technical vocabulary for dance performance.
A diverse range of music is used to develop musical interpretation and choreographic ideas.
The 4 grades are progressive and provide a solid foundation of contemporary movement.
MM MOVEMENT THERAPY (MMMT)
Margaret trained as a physiotherapist at St Thomas' Hospital London in the 1920's. Through this, her interest and knowledge of therapeutic movement increased. She was frustrated by the tedium of exercise for children and adults in hospitals at this time and realised a need for stimulating exercises.
Margaret's combined interest in movement therapy and dance formed this syllabus of corrective movements. Her aim was to combine the curative and aesthetic values in exercise for corrective purposes.
Movement Therapy is a gentle concentrated exercise programme to music and is suitable for all ages and abilities.
The teachers have extensive training to teach this area of Margaret's work and will provide individual support and direction where necessary.
The exercises are designed to improve posture, gait, mobility, co-ordination and breath control.
The explanation of the benefits of each exercise educates the students (and carers) in the objectives and provides a safe approach to movement and encouragement in self-correction.
MMMT takes a holistic view of a healthy body and believes strongly in promoting physical development in all children and adults with or without special needs.
MM DANCE SCRIPT (NOTATION)
Margaret also developed her own form of Dance Notation Dance Script. This is of specific interest for those who have a desire to learn choreography and/or take their knowledge of Dance History to a higher level.
